For 45 years I’ve been reading the book of Job. Who in history had a worse deal? Of all the missionary stories and Holocaust books I’ve absorbed, nothing compares to his tale of woe. Even though Job asked, “why,” God never told him why. Why doesn’t God answer “why”? I’ve caught glimpses of glory during a trail, but never total clarity.
Job’s story has actually become a comfort to me. When I read all of his parts (like a play) skipping over the misguided friends, I find heart-felt grief and praise… Wisdom. One of my favorite passages is Job 9:32-35 –
“For (YAWEH) is not a man as I am that I may argue with Him; that we may go to court together. There is no Mediator between us, Who may lay His hand upon us both. Plucking away GOD’s rod from me; keeping dread of Him from terrifying me. Then I would speak and not fear; But I am not like that in myself.”
How utterly amazing to grasp that GOD did send a Mediator for humans! Someone to take His rod away from me and allow open communication without fear. “And GOD became flesh and dwelt among us” -the perfect sacrifice. He knew, I could never be like that in myself.
The real question is – Why would He do it? Why would GOD want to come in human flesh to rescue me? Why? The only explanation given is, “For GOD so loved the world…” John 3:16. Jesus went to court as my Mediator, He took my blame, and paid my penalty for “falling short of the Glory of God”… And we ALL do. Such perfect love casts out all fear! 1 John 4:18-19 ❤️
