I think it started with a motorcycle our son bought. He said it was cheaper than a car in every way. But I worried it was more dangerous than a car in every way! I prayed every time he drove off to work, surrounding him with “bubble wrap.” I imagined God’s protection all around him and that bike. I’m visual, blame the artist in me.
“For you have died, and your life has been hidden WITH Christ IN God.” Colossians 3:3
My mom taught me Colossians 3:3 using her hands. Tucking a thumb into one fist, she’d cover it with her other hand explaining, “You are the thumb hidden with Jesus, in God.” I imagined His protection everywhere I went. That was my first image of being hidden from evil, safe beside Jesus. God’s big hands holding me fast. Nothing coming close without His approval. And nothing approved that was not useful to His Glory.
“You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me.” Psalm 139:5
Psalm 139:5 spelled it out, God was always aware of my location, surrounding me with His hands. Now, as a mother, I was simply asking Him to surround my children. Bubble wrap morphed into “a bubble,” as I began to pray daily for one big sphere around each child.
“If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:14
“Rest assured, you’re in a prayer bubble” became my encouraging phrase. Some of my children picked it up. They ask God to wrap their family in His perfect keeping. They understand He alone knows what’s best and how to draw each person deeper and deeper into His love in Jesus. Of course hard thing happen, but we can trust His complete control and willingly give it all to His care.
“For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.“ Romans 8:38-39
