Good Morning

There’s nothing I like more than some early morning Bible reading with a good commentary at hand and my BibleHub app (for original translation). Today, reading Nehemiah 8 showed me I am not alone:

5 Ezra opened the book in the eyes  of all the people, … all the people stood up.

8 (the leaders) read from the book of God’s law, explaining it and imparting insight. Thus the people gained understanding from what was read.

9… all the people were weeping when they heard the words of the law.

Understanding comes when I read the whole story (or letter). Sometimes it takes more than once through. I can feel emotional too: convicted, full of gratefulness, or simply in awe at who God is and His amazing plan through Jesus.

10 “Then Ezra said to them, ‘Go, (celebrate) for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the Joy of the LORD is your strength.’”

12 “So all the people departed … to enjoy tremendous joy, for they understood the words that had been read to them.”

Ultimately it’s the understanding of God’s precious Word that brings me tremendous joy. Reading or listening to the scripture feeds my soul. Realizing again all He has done to bring me closethe amazing and abundant Life He has prepared… and the unfading Hope I have in what’s to come.

Ahh the Joy of His Word! This by far my favorite way to spend any morning.
