Passover

Every year Passover blows my mind. GOD gave this 2nd ordinance (1st was circumcision) to His people, Israel, while they were slaves in Egypt. “And this day will be a memorial for you, and you are to celebrate it as a feast to The LORD as a permanent statute for the generations to come.” And they did for nearly 1500 years!

Then the Messiah, Jesus came and He fulfilled every aspect of the holiday. As He ate this dinner with his 12 followers the day before He death (a last meal), each element of the ancient tradition was about Him. Everything pointed to why He  had come and all He had been trying to convey. It astounds me that He was so calm eating and not shouting, “Don’t you see?”

The symbolism is amazing: as He read from Exodus, telling the stories, drinking the cups of wine, braking the unleavened bread (maybe even hiding the afikoman) and sharing each special element. The specific  order was significant, right down to singing Psalms 113-118 at the end. Their Reason for the Seder sat right in front of them.

“…Behold the Lamb of GOD who comes to take away the sins of the world” (John 1:29).

The disciples wouldn’t be able see the whole picture for days to come. I can hardly grasp it all 2000 years later. Truly our Father is a Master of riddles, parables and bringing about remembrance through symbolism. “Oh LORD, Open our eyes and our hearts to the incredible richness of Your Word. Nothing recorded is without purpose, Glory & Hallelujah!” -Anna
