Investment Matters

Years ago, missionary Elizabeth Elliot, encouraged me to make time everyday for a quiet time with God. It was an investment she said; a sowing of seeds. And so I took her challenge and began to set aside time daily, never wanting to miss.

“[Charge them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal and generous of heart, ready to share [with others], In this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed.” 1 Timothy 6:18 & 19

Bit by bit good works build one on the other. Time with God, reading His Word, telling Him what’s on my heart. It’s all been for a purpose, an excellent foundation for the future. One that was sometimes really hard to carve out, but truly helped me grasp that which is life.

Where would I have been this last year without all the preparation? I shudder to think. Whether it’s a few precious minutes before anyone else gets up or a devotional and journaling before bed, this life-long investing is priceless. My children saw, my husband noticed, but most importantly God satisfied me with trust and peace. Without knowing Him how would I have made it through the valley.

“Thank you LORD, for wanting to spend time with me daily. I understand now its great importance. I love you.
