My mom used to pray asking that God would put a hedge of protection around me<\/em>. I imagined very tall bushes\u2026 and I wondered exactly how this would protect me and where she got the idea?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hedge phrase comes from the book of Job where the adversary<\/em> is complaining to God, “Have You not made a hedge <\/em><\/strong>(sakta) about Job and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.\u201d <\/em><\/strong>Job\u202c \u202d1:10\u202c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being hedged-in<\/em> by God comes up again in Psalms. 139 (my favorite passage) <\/em><\/strong>says, \u201cYou have enclosed\/hedged <\/em><\/strong>(sartani) me behind and before, and have laid Your hand upon me.<\/em><\/strong>” Psalm 139:5<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sakta <\/strong>–\u00a0to entwine, i.e. Shut in (for protection or restraint) –make a fence, hedge (up).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sartani <\/strong>–\u00a0assault, beset, besiege, bind up, distress, fashion<\/em>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those definitions from the BibleHub app<\/strong> reveal not only that God brings protection<\/em> from evil, but also retrains<\/em> me from going too far! His enclosure is both an assault<\/em> and a distress<\/em> to the enemy. My mom was right! God promises to protect His children from within and without with His hedge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ah the beautiful and unseen provisions of God. I will never fully know His loving care until I meet Him face to face. For now, I will continue to marvel at His Word as it lets me peek a bit into His deep, deep love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can I not echo the Psalmist: “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain to it<\/em><\/strong> (take it all in).\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Psalms\u202c \u202d139:6\u202c <\/p>\n\n\n\n
