King David asked God to test him and see if there was anything ungodly in him:
“Examine me, and probe my thoughts!<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 Test me, and know my (anxious) concerns! \u00a0<\/i><\/b>See if there is any idolatrous tendency in me,\u00a0<\/i><\/b>and lead me in the reliable ancient path!”\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Psalms 139:23\/24 NET<\/p>\n

When I read this I think, “God already knows my anxious thoughts, and where I try to be<\/em>\u00a0boss.\u00a0It’s\u00a0me who needs to see clearly where\u00a0I’m veering off His path!<\/em>\u00a0…What a scary prayer, “Lord, show me my idolatrous ways.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Paul encouraged: \u201cTest yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don\u2019t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u202d\u202d2 Corinthians\u202c \u202d13:5 \u202dMSG\u202c\u202c<\/p>\n

So I asked to see… and God was faithful to show. Three times last week my eyes opened to some ugly truth. 1<\/strong> I\u00a0<\/em>heard what I wanted to hear, 2<\/strong> I didn’t\u00a0ask\u00a0God what I should do about it, 3<\/strong> I took charge and reacted. <\/i>All were fairly subtle, but unnecessary chaos followed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Personal Inventory on a regular basis like having close friends and family to stay accountable to, is so helpful for me. When I find myself having to explain my words or actions,<\/b>\u00a0or even\u00a0not wanting to the tell someone details of a specific situation…\u00a0<\/b>red-flags fly. I’m very thankful for these precious people to pray with.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore let the one who thinks he stands firm [immune to temptation, being overconfident and self-righteous], take care that he does not fall [into sin and condemnation].\u201d <\/i><\/b>\u202d\u202d1 Corinthians\u202c \u202d10:12\u202c \u202dAMP\u202c\u202c<\/p>\n

Thank You, Lord for helping me evaluate my heart. You always show if I’m following “the reliable ancient path.” I’m forever grateful for Your gentle correcting.<\/i><\/p>\n
