I love knowing that what I&#8217;m putting in my body has a benefit. <em>It&#8217;s guilt-free nourishment!<\/em> &#8230;And there are so many <em>good things<\/em> out there to try. It&#8217;s very important according to all the sources I read, to eat things in their most natural state. No salt, sugar, dyes or chemicals added. Nuts and dried fruit for instance, must be eaten<em>\u00a0Raw.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Recently I tweaked 2 of my favorite recipes to be more <em>thyroid-friendly <\/em>(<strong>Nutra Balls<\/strong> &amp;<strong>\u00a0Granola Squares<\/strong>)<em>.<\/em>\u00a0I eat these every day!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Nutri Balls<\/b><\/span> (great before a workout):<strong> 2T.<\/strong> Sunflower Butter, <strong>1T.<\/strong> *Flax, <strong>1T.<\/strong> *Chia, <strong>1T.<\/strong> Hemp, <strong>1T.<\/strong> raw Sesame Seeds, <strong>1T.<\/strong> chopped raw Pumpkin Seeds, <strong>1T.<\/strong> chopped raw\u00a0Almonds, <strong>1T.<\/strong> Molasses, <strong>2<\/strong> chopped Dates,<strong> 1T.<\/strong> Yerba Mate Tea (run through coffee grinder), <strong>2T.<\/strong> plain dried Coconut.<strong> 1T.<\/strong> chopped raw Cashews, <strong>3<\/strong> chopped raw Apricots. Mix. Roll into 12 balls- store in fridge. <strong>63 calories each. <\/strong>*Grind the fax &amp; chia seeds.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Granola Squares<\/b><\/span> : <strong>1C<\/strong>. Oats, <strong>1\/2 C<\/strong>. Coconut flour, <strong>2T<\/strong>. ground Yellow Peas, <strong>1T<\/strong>. *Flax, <strong>1T.<\/strong> *Chia, <strong>1tsp<\/strong>. Cinnamon, <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>mix<\/b><\/span>\u00a0with: <strong>2T.<\/strong> Molasses, <strong>4T<\/strong>. Yacon Syrup,<strong> 3T.<\/strong> Sunflower Butter, <strong>1T.<\/strong> coconut oil, <strong>1T.<\/strong> Hemp oil, <strong>1T.<\/strong> Maca Powder, <strong>1T.<\/strong> plain dried Coconut, <strong>1T.<\/strong> chopped raw Almonds, <strong>1T.<\/strong> chopped raw Sesame Seeds, <strong>2<\/strong> chopped Dates,<strong> 3<\/strong> chopped raw Apricots. \u00a0Press into a sprayed square pan.<strong>\u00a0cook 350 for 15 mins<\/strong>. CUT into 16 bars. Store in fridge. <strong>96 calories each. <\/strong>*grind the flax &amp; chia seeds.<\/p>\n<p>Besides these yummy treats, the thyroid craves <strong>Iodine and Selenium<\/strong>\u00a0found in:<br \/><em>Flax seeds, Chia seeds, Hemp seeds (oil and protein), all Coconut,\u00a0raw dairy products (haven&#8217;t been heated to 180*), hormone-free chicken, turkey, grass-fed beef, wild saltwater fish and seafood (shellfish), eggs (with yolk), seaweeds, almost all nuts especially\u00a0Brazil nuts\u00a0(<strong>2\u00a0daily<\/strong>) and all seeds (like sunflower &amp; sesame), mushrooms (especially crimini), onions, winter squash, parsley, garlic, celtic sea salt, molasses, apricots, prunes, dates and all Gluten-free grains<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I learned<strong> Goitrogenic foods<\/strong> (ones that enlarge the thyroid and generally aggravate the gland),<strong>\u00a0must be cooked<\/strong>: <em>peanuts, peaches, pears, strawberries, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, spinach, mustard and mustard greens, turnip greens, radishes, rutabagas, pinenuts, millet, kohlrobi, linseed and cassava (known as Yuca, arrowroot, tapioca, manioc).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you truly have a thyroid issue- there were just a few <strong>Goitrogenic Foods<\/strong>\u00a0to <em>avoid<\/em> as they impede the bodies ability to absorb iodine: <em>Sweet Potato, Bamboo shoots, Soybeans and soy related products, Canola oil, Horseradish, Bok Choy, any Gluten grains, Garden Kris, Tempeh, and Babassu<\/em>. ***Caffeine, fluoride and plastics with\u00a0PBA -as with all chemicals are considered aggravators as well.<\/p>\n<p>Next time I&#8217;ll share more of my favorite recipes -like yummy Bean Burgers and my daughter&#8217;s Trail Mix.
