Last of Innocence

I am so blessed to “teach” 3rd graders at Sunday school. I put that in quotes because it’s not really school and I’m not a teacher -it’s more like listening and sharing with little people.

Large group with the other grades is where the bulk of the day’s Message happens. There’s music, dancing, a story and a fun video. On the whole, the girls are quieter than the boys… but I’m usually surprised at what they retain even while talking video game strategy. 🙄

How I love those boys… and girls. Just like my own, they hold a special place in my heart. I pray for them (silently) while they’re with me and more throughout the week. Far too soon their innocence will be gone and hormones, worldly knowledge and pressure to “be cool” will take over.

The boys in particular let me give a quick hug and tell them they’re “brave, strong men of God.” They don’t resist or laugh at that yet. They live in the precious years of Santa, Easter baskets and make-believe. The girls love their dresses and sparkly shoes and sweet faces show natural beauty. Too soon all this will change.

“Oh God, guard these precious hearts You’ve given me a moment with. Keep them, protect them, tie them to You. 15 is coming fast and they wont be prepared for the onslaught of testing… nor their parents. Give them all grace for what’s ahead!”❤️
